11/16/2023 0 Comments Java development eclipse vs netbeans![]() My impression is that people who developed VSCode hate Java or at the very least don't want to use it. I'm sure millions of people got it to work. I think Netbeans can be the be-all-end-all application with a little more development time. They start with the basics in Netbeans and move to Eclipse because Eclipse seems to do a few more things than Netbeans. It also, I think, doesn't support the refactoring that Eclipse has. Something I noticed when I was trying to figure out why Eclipse was starting to have issues was that others seem to use both. It supports Java, but I couldn't figure out how. But only for node/TypeScript and related programming. It's great if you love dark theme and hate traditional menu bars. ![]() I couldn't find anything IJ could do that Eclipse couldn't, and worse I'd have to research how do I generate getters and setters or sorting them for example. I've tried IJ, it worked and I could tell it does most of what I could do in Eclipse. My main concern with this approch is around multi-modules Maven projects : once you add or remove a module, Eclipse is lost and you need to import again the missing module. Eclipse is relying on a workspace concept where you import Java projects. I'm color blind and it's hard to see dark gray foreground on black. This is I think the most important change between Eclipse and VSCode. Sometimes it crawls just to let you know. The newer Eclipses use a language specific server for indexing. I just bought a MyEclipse personal license.
